Col. Denise Donnell assumed command
of the 105th Airlift Wing at a ceremony
at Stewart Air National Guard Base on
Sunday. She is the first woman to lead a
flying wing of the New York Air National
Guard.
Donnell, an accomplished naval pilot
with more than 3,800 flying hours under
her belt, was promoted from the position
of vice commander. She replaces Col.
Howard Wagner as wing commander.
According to the Air National Guard,
Donnell was commissioned through the
Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps in
1993.
“After nine years as a naval aviator, Col.
Donnell joined the Air National Guard at
Stewart ANGB in Newburgh,” the Air
National Guard states. “She was selected
to become the 105th Aircraft Maintenance
Squadron commander in October, 2005,
and earned her maintenance badge
while continuing to fly as a C-5 aircraft
commander.”
She was selected to command the
109th Maintenance Group at Stratton Air
National Guard Base in 2013. Donnell was
reassigned to the 105th Airlift Wing as
vice commander to Wagner in 2016.
