William Street building crumbling City officials, pastors and citizens gathered at the Boys and Girls Club of Newburgh on Thursday for a stopthe-violence forum exploring possible solutions to the problem. “Are you willing to do whatever it takes to stop the madness?” Newburgh Mayor Judy Kennedy asked the audience. “Our young people are taking their anger out on each other. Then, they take it out on somebody at random. It’s madness. It’s civil anarchy.” The forum took place two days after a 17-year-old Continued on page 2 Rites of Spring Demolition imminent By SHANTAL RILEY [email protected] A dilapidated building on William Street has become structurally unstable. The building, located near the corner of Hasbrouck Street, is dropping bricks onto the sidewalk. City officials say the building will soon be demolished. The area surrounding the structure was closed to cars and pedestrians late last month. “Right now, we’re putting emergency documents together to effect that demolition,” City Manager Michael Ciaravino said last week. The badly-deteriorated, brick building was boarded up and covered with graffiti last week.
