The Silver Stars – South Florida’s Pioneer Caribbean Radio Personalities At 25 years of marriage one celebrates a Silver Anniversary. It is in that spirit that the relationship between an audience and their favorite Caribbean On-Air personality is commemorated. When one migrates from the Caribbean to the States, that on-air personality can be the first person you will “meet” on the radio. It is a connection to home, and a refreshing familiar voice (accent still strong and bold). That is same person that will help you understand what’s happening to your island before, during, and after a hurricane. They will also share their political views with you. Whether it be Soca, Calypso, Reggae, Ska, or Quadrille, music is the medium on which the relationship rides. After 25 years an unbreakable bond is formed. Listed here, are some of the Silver Stars who have been South Florida’s Caribbean Radio Personalities for 25 years or more: Denver Cornel Clayton Silvera AKA “Jamusa” • Career launched 53 years ago playing at house parties in Kingston Jamaica • Opened Studio 44, the first black owned club, in South Miami in 1980 • On air career: 99 JAMZ; WRBD; AND WDNA • Instrumental in launching the Caribbean format on WAVS
