Fire has devastated Galicia. At least three people died from the 125 fires that had been declared between 16th and 19th October 2017 and razed more than 4,000 hectares. Of these, 17 threaten population nuclei. Sources of the Comando de Operaciones de Socorro (CDOS) of Castelo Branco explained that two people died in Penacova, in the district of Coimbra, while another died in Serta, located in the south of this city.
Firefighters and neighbours fought all the afternoon and night trying to control the flames. The meteorological conditions registered in Galicia in the last hours made it difficult to extinguish the fire wave, since there was a gradual increase in the gusts of wind due to the influence of the hurricane ' Ophelia ', in addition to a temperature higher than 25 degrees and a relative humidity of the low air for this time.
