PORSCHE CAYMAN FIRST
GENERATION
The first generation (code 987) was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2005 and started producing at the end of the year. Like the second-generation Boxster, the Cayman was built for Porsche in Finland by Valmet Automotive.
The Cayman S had a six-cylinder boxer engine, 3.4 liters of displacement and 295 HP of maximum power. In mid-2006 a base version was added, with a six-cylinder boxer of 2.7 liters and 245 hp. In 2008 the Cayman S Sport was launched, with a 3.4 liters boosted to 306 hp.
In 2009, the engines became a 2.9-liter and 265 hp (base), and a 3.4-liter 320 hp (Cayman S) or 330 hp (Cayman R). The latter was lightened, with an approved weight of 1370 kg.
Holger P. Harter, deputy director of Porsche, announced that the contract with Valmet Automotive would conclude in 2012, and then the production of the Cayman would be contracted to Magna Steyr Fahrzeugtechnik of Graz, Austria.
