MHC Dish From the Pitch 2014 Week 8 | Page 17

The pressure exerted by the Rebels from Matt Kunz and Rookie midseason addition, RJ Hansen, keeping plays alive was killing McBob’s rhythm. The Gael Winds managed to squeak out a couple more, but Trinity’s overall plan of attack was working as they took a narrow lead into halftime 1-5 (8) over McBob’s 1-4 (7).

You would have thought this game was for a first place spot in the rankings by the way both teams continued to play passionately in the second half. It was McBob’s that won the battle of possession though, as the Gael Winds began to mount a series of successful scoring plays from Foley, Rapkin, and Killian Mantyh. Backing them up was the strong presence of John McCarville, who was allowing his squad to focus on their offensive. The pressure in the box was intense, and as the sliotar bounced around in one scrum, a gruff Sunday morning voice rang out from the sidelines, “SWING ON IT!”

Trinity Captain Joel Guinane along with Nick Neuman were able to push off the Gael Winds, driving them back and allowing Ronnie Hansen to work inside for a point to keep the Rebels from falling too far behind. McBob’s would answer with authority to close the quarter, as the Gael Wind lead began to surge into double digits. Trinity would just not go away though as Ronnie Hansen and Ruetz put it on the line to dig back from that ugly quarter and came away with two for the Rebels. The comeback was looking like a possibility after Matt Hooper put his second MHC goal past the McBob’s keeper to get Trinity within eight points.

McBob’s Adam Blackwell, Jesse Rapkin, and Matt “Parkay” Goelz were firing on all cylinders though, and the Rebels were also having a lot of trouble getting past Tom Stoecker at midfield. Kyle Christenson would cap off his squad’s success with a goal up close to ensure his Gael Winds winning streak would extend to three in a row with a score of 5-16 (31) to Trinity’s 2-8 (14). Now the Gael Winds wait for a fateful loss high in the standings.
