Never ready to quit, Silver Spring House came into the second half ready to take over the game. “Jo-El” switching to half-forward fought through virtual gauntlet in the form of Marauder defenders Trish Borzon, Rebecca Miksch, rookie Calysta Phalen and Alfredo “Freddy” Castillo and eventually zinged one into the back of the net. The midfield battle was intense as Sam Hanrahan, and the Hobbins brothers, Eric and Kevin, scrapped with Heavyweights Colin Zuelzke, Tony Sholts and the Kuechenmeisters. But, as would set the tone for the rest of the day, the story was really on both sides defenses whom held the score tight until the end of the quarter. Ale House retained the lead of 5-4 (19) to 2-5 (11) but the momentum was in Silver Spring House’s corner.
Fourth quarter comebacks are not merely possible, but fairly common within the Milwauke Hurling Club. That in mind, both teams dug in for what was sure to be a slug-fest until the end. Ale House was not about to have a repeat of the overtime that ended a brilliant game the previous week and Jake, Rhino and Shaun Luehring attacked the Heavyweights with abandon. Silver Spring House held firm, but intercepted passes by Ale House kept the play pummeling toward the Heavyweight goal. Sam Hanrahan finished the game with a loud “BOING!” as his shot hit the upright and bounced in for a point. a Chorus of “Finallys!” and “WaHoos!!!” echoed throughout the pitch as Ale House claimed their victory with a final score of 6-9(27) to Heavyweight’s 4-5(17).
