SamShocks...ShamRocks
by Tony Gilbert
The midday contest featured Ale House and Shamrock Club squads who, at the midway point of the season, were experiencing quite different fortunes. Shamrock is undefeated on the year while Ale House has labored through multiple player shortages and injuries over the first four weeks. As the teams took the field , players and fans alike were shocked to see Ale House’s key midfielder Sam Hanrahan………... (who just had pins removed from his broken hand),..........suit up, modify his hurley grip, and take the field. Meanwhile Shamrock fielded a full squad of twenty players and were anxious to continue the positive momentum that they had developed over the first 4 games.
It was Ale House that took the initiative from the opening throw in. They showed an aggressiveness and edge to their play that sent the message that they would not to be taken lightly. Excellent work from Andrew “Rhino” Wozniak was a hallmark of the opening period as he combined well with the aforementioned Hanrahan to help Ale House convert a bevvy of early scores. The Griffins were unable to effectively deal with Ale House’s crisp passing and as a result ended the first quarter scoreless while the Marauders amassed an impressive 1-5 for eight points.
