In the MHC, we tend to play games rain or shine. But occasionally Mother Nature has different ideas; forcing a game official to cancel a game and/.or call a game early. We strive to make sure that everyone can experience as much hurling as possible, so Officials only call a game where there is a clear threat of injury. Such was the case Sunday June 1st when the Brocach Bandits faced off against the County Clare Cats.
Lightning in the third quarter caused the match officials to delay the game in hopes that the weather would clear up. Supporting officials checked the weather and local radar which indicated that the inclement weather would continue for quite sometime. As such, the game officials decided to call the game.
This is not a normal occurrence in the MHC, a freak of nature, if you will. And, because of the rarity of this event, there was some confusion as to what this means for the teams and club standings. After much research, we found the protocol for dealing with this oddity and we hope it clears up some of the confusion.
Weather Protocol
1. All games completed on any given day count.
2. Any game that is rained out does not cancel any completed games on a given day
3. A game will be considered official if it is called after the end of the 3rd period
4. If a game is rained out, it will not count as a win, loss, or tie. (See below.)
