Last Minute Rebel Rush Maroons Marauders

by Tony Gilbert

Ale House and Trinity squared off in the third match of the day. With Ale House missing Sam Hanrahan due to injury, they knew that everyone would have to bring their “A” game and scrap for every ball if they were to compete with a strong Trinity squad. Right from the opening whistle, Trinity began to lay siege on the Marauders’ goal camping out on the Ale House half of the field and controlling the run of play. Justin “Pinball” McCauley scored an early point and shortly afterward a nice give and go hand-pass combination between Teddy Ruetz and Aislinn Leonard set Teddy free only to see his effort stopped by goalie Jerry Miksch. Indeed that was a theme that was to play out throughout the afternoon with Miksch repeatedly being called on to stem the Trinity assault on the Ale House goal. Midway through the period Ronnie Hanson collected a sliothar around the left half forward position, and after charging toward goal proceeded to rifle a cracking goal into the far corner upper 90. Sticks soon began to break as both sides pulling furiously and challenging for every possession. But with Trinity continuing to place a stranglehold on the Ale House half of the field, it was no surprise when that man Hanson again stepped forward and collected a second goal that would ultimately leave the score at the quarter Trinity 2-1, Ale House no score.
