THE OTHER 13TH AMENDMENT

On December 6, 1865, Georgia became the 27th state to approve the 13th amendment. This action by the state’ s legislature gave the amendment the approval of three-fourths of the nation’ s 36 states that was needed to ratify it into law – and to make it an indelible part of the American Constitution. As news of the 13th amendment’ s ratification slowly spread across the nation, newspaper headlines rejoiced.
