to other cities – has sparked about public safety and a city’ s right to control its destiny.
Finally, there is this good news. As this new academic year gets underway, there is much to celebrate here at Morgan State University – and an awful lot more to look forward to. With the Homecoming season upon us, Dr. Edwin Johnson, the University Historian, writes about his arrival at Morgan as an 18-year-old freshman and university evolution over the years since.
This Homecoming, Morgan has a lot to celebrate: the opening of new and refurbished dorms, the $ 171-million Health and Human Services Building, the reopening of Hurt Gymnasium, and the groundbreaking for a $ 337-million Science Center.
And just as Morgan’ s future seems so bright, this year we celebrate the university’ s rich history, as was told in the documentary,“ History of a National Treasure – Morgan State University.” The film, which was written, produced and directed by dean emeritus DeWayne Wickham, was created in Center for New Media and Strategic Initiatives, a unit in the School of Global Journalism & Communication.
In June, the film was awarded an Emmy.
There are a lot of exciting things happening at Morgan these days and much of it is reflected upon in this and other issues of the“ Morgan Global Journalism Review.”
