IN THEIR OWN WORDS

FROM THE NABJ AUDIOTAPE ARCHIVES

very year since 1976, members of the National Association of Black Journalists have come together to strengthen their ties to each other and to enhance their professional skills and knowledge.
This annual ritual- the NABJ Convention- also has been a magnet for newsmakers who often have, intentionally or unintentionally, said something at these gatherings that plunged them into the spotlight of national news. The list of these newsmakers is long and includes presidential candidates, civil rights activists, professional athletes, actors, journalists, and filmmakers.
In this issue of the Morgan Global Journalism Review, we’ ve reached into our Time Capsule to share with you audio recordings of three memorable moments from past NABJ Conventions- moments that are revealed by the words- and voices- of these newsmakers.
