timing box to compete in his F. Leonie Price
won the Ladies class in the ZS180 in her
first appearance at Rob Roy as a competitor,
being more commonly seen serving in the
Octunda. Andrew Coon was the only starter
in the Youth class in the family Seat.
In the Rookies class, it was Ian Mayze first
in his B Roadster from James Barton in his
Midget, Jeff Turnbull in his MGF and Bruce
Heal in his B GT. I was the only starter in the
Post 2000 Z class in the ZS180. Mark Patane
won the Non-Marque class in the blue Alfa
2000 GTV from Daryl Coon in the family
Seat, Andrea Ward Ashton in the Cortina,
just ahead of her father Don in the same car
and Graham Andersen in his Mazda MX5,
who pipped Peter Clarke’s Bug-eye Sprite
on the last run, when Peter didn’t start!
The Geelong class was headed by Ryan
Thompson in the beautifully restored pale
green ex-John Blandon TC special ahead of
Nick Wood in the MG1100 and Mitch and
Ken McAllister in their shared MGB. There
is a great photo of a very sideways Mitch
in the event photo gallery... obviously not
much grip!
The next event after Rob Roy will be the
Sprint and Regularity to be held at Sandown
on 22 June in conjunction with the Marque
Sports Car Association (MSCA), who will be
runn ing the day. By the time you read this,
the event will be over, so I’ll include the
results in the next issue.
Another event you will have missed by
now is the annual Driver Training Day at
Calder on Saturday 31st May, which the
Racing Register will be holding. Let’s hope
it went well.
Following that, on 20th July, will be the
first of our OST’s, at Rob Roy, so watch out
for the Supp Regs and Entry Forms on the
website, which will be out by now, with
another OST, this time at the Northcott
farm at Macedon on 10th August, as the
following event.
So far seventeen Victorians are venturing
over to South Australia over the Queen’s
Birthday weekend to try and retain the MG
Challenge Trophy we won last year. It may
be too late to go if you are reading this and
feel encouraged to go, but if there is still
time, just go to the Vic Club website under
the Competition page, and you can collect
motel booking forms, Supp Regs and Entry
Forms.
This involves a Sprint event at Mallala on
Sat 7th June and a Hillclimb at Collingrove
on Sunday 8th June, plus a number of
social events over the weekend. With no
Competition orientated Nat Meet this year,
this is a perfect outlet, and a great weekend
away.
I look forward to seeing you at our next
Competition event.
Until next month, keep your hoods
watertight.
