I had never heard of subscription boxes until a friend
told me about My Geek Box. It sounded fantastic to get
a box of geeky gear through the door each month and
the price was very reasonable. After getting the first few
boxes I knew I could never buy these things – like the
Kwik-E-Mart bag, etc – at my local shop. The standard
has continued throughout this first year and the t-shirts
each month are worth the price of the box alone!

I called my YouTube channel Solitary Nerdette
because I don’t have many people around me who
are geeky about anything. Finding others who are
passionate about things I am interested in was a
relief! The people I have met via unboxings are great
– we always get geeky in different ways and it’s nice
to talk to people who know a Cylon from a Wraith
and a Devil’s Gate from a Stargate.

Without a doubt it would be the Old School box, purely
because it had the fabulous Pac-Man plush in it! He
would be my Man Friday, my Wilson, the person I would
talk to and he would help me stay sane… or laugh with
me when I go completely out of my mind – whichever
came first.
Marvel or DC?
I’d have to say Marvel, based entirely on the fact I
use to watch the X-Men cartoon when I was a kid
and always wanted to be Gambit – so much so I
used to flick cards at everyone. I think nowadays
there are so many ways to enjoy both universes that
you don’t have to pick and choose, though if I ever
did succumb to comics I think I would start with
something like DC’s Hellblazer or The Sandman.
