10 TH FEBRUARY, 2019
he MG Car Club was well repre-
sented at Echunga for All British
Day. We had 57 entries and only the
Jaguar Club exceeded that number –
anyway that’s what the organizers told
us.

It was an enjoyable day, cloudy but fine,
ideal for a walk around the cars. It was
capped off by another win for the MG
Car Club of SA. Heather and Chris Ben-
nett, in their MG TF, won the Sterling
Jewellers Trophy for the best presented
car at the event. Well done to the Ben-
netts.

The oldest car in the MG display was
Arthur Ruediger’s 1934 MG ND. The
most modern MG in the MG display was
Robin Button’s 2003 MG TF Roadster.
There was some discussion about
whether the modern Chinese designed,
Chinese built MG’s were eligible to be
displayed. The general feeing amongst
MG Car club members was no. How-
ever at least one member from another
club could find no problems with these
cars being included.
Congratulations to Heather and Chris
Bennett for winning a prize for the best
detailed car on display.

O
n February 10, approximately 850
cars, all with British heritage, gath-
ered on the Echunga Recreation
Grounds. 57 cars were placed in the
section reserved for the MG Car Club of
SA. However some members made the
decision to display their car in an area
reserved for another club. The weather
was warm, the sky was cloudy. Some of
the participants met at Mylor for break-
fast before travelling to Echunga. Oth-
ers aimed to arrive before the gates
were closed.
The cars were arranged in club groups.
A display of Heritage Racing Vehicles
was placed in the centre of one of the
ovals. In the centre of the second oval
was a display of cars from the Sporting
Car Club. Many of the drivers gathered
in marquees provided by the organisers.
Many of the representatives of the MG
Car Club spent the day catching up with
friends from other clubs.
