January / February 2018
The 2018 MG National Meeting will be held in Northern Tasmania from Friday March 30 to Tuesday April 3. Events will be centred on Ulverstone, a short and easy drive from the Devonport ferry terminal.
Venues to be used include the Ulverstone Sports Stadium( Registration, Noggin and Natter, Kimber House Garden Party, starting point for social run and observation run, delegates meeting), Pier 01( Farewell Breakfast), Anzac Park( Concours), Oonah Road( Hill Climb) and the Penguin Sports Centre( Motorkhana). The Tasmanian organisers have reported that all of the venues have been booked and catering has been organised.
One of the features of this National Meeting is the fact that the organisers have out sourced some of the organisation to other clubs. The North-West Car Club will run the hill climb. The MG Car Club of Victoria will provide timing equipment and the people to use the timing equipment for the Motorkhana. Chris and Wes Bray from MG Car Club of SA will collate the results and provide lists of trophy winners for the Presentation Dinner.
A reasonably large group of members of the MG Car Club of SA have indicated an interest in attending the meeting. Indications from the registration secretary are that some of the first registrations received came from our club. If you intend going and you have not yet registered please take note that early bird registrations will close on January 31. Early bird registration for competitors is $ 410 and early bird social registration is $ 370. After early bird these prices rise by $ 50.
If you intend going to Tasmania there are a couple of things which should be noted. The first obvious fact is that you will need to book you and your car onto the Spirit of Tasmania. At the time of writing there appears to be room for new bookings but these may disappear as Easter gets closer. The Sprit of Tasmania is one of the sponsors and discounts are being offered for National Meeting participants. See the National Meeting web page( http:// www. mgtas. org. au / national-meeting. html) for details. Secondly the Tasmanian organisers have decided to place a cap on the number of registrations using the first come, first served principle. Early registration is therefore highly recommended.
If you have photographs of MG’ s see if you have any that you consider suitable for entering in the photographic competition. If you do not enter a photo you cannot win.
A pre-National Meeting get together will be held at the club rooms on Friday February 2 from 7.30 pm. At this meeting we will compare plans and travel arrangements, discuss the outfits for the social night and get to know each other better before we leave.
