MID WEEK LUNCH RUN REPORTS
From Rodger Polkinghorne
D
Thursday 8 November 2018
espite leaving the winter months
well and truly behind, the weather
for the lunch run was quite cool. There
were a small number of drivers who had
the roof down and endured the cooler
conditions, but most covered up with the
roof on or had their tin top.
We met for morning tea at around
10.30am at the Tea Tree Gully Hotel
which being of the edge of the Adelaide
hills is always a good place to start. Be-
cause we were on the Holmes side of
town Di and David took the opportunity
to drop in for coffee so it was nice to
catch up with them both.
Our destination, Angaston, took us
through Kersbrook, Williamstown,
Springton and Eden Valley. The drive
was one of the longest for the year but
there was very little traffic and plenty of
open straight stretches of road to stretch
the legs of the cars. The countryside is
now starting to brown off but still looking
very healthy when compared to the dry
conditions in other parts of the country
that we are now hearing about. Having
said that, the South Para Reservoir
which we crossed between Kersbrook
and Williamstown, looked extremely low
for this time of year.
Chris Kinney turned up in his newly ac-
quired MGGT and in his excitement
missed the last turn into the restaurant,
or maybe it was because he was a bit
lost without his navigator Annette who is
overseas at the present. In any case
Graham Loader gave chase in the hot
Mustang to put Chris back on the right
road. The sound of the Mustang roaring
down the road at half throttle (according
to Graham) is really something now that
12
the car is largely sorted. Well worth
Chris missing the turn.
The SA Company Store on the outskirts
of Angaston provided us with a great
lunch venue with views over the vine-
yards to the hills beyond. A special
menu had been prepared which pro-
vided an excellent selection of main
courses. The desserts also were out-
standing as can be seen by photo of
Garry Chapman about to attack a very
large bowl of fruit salad and ice cream.
Thanks to everyone who came and sup-
ported the run.
Next mid-week lunch run will be on 13
December 2018 to the Normanville Ho-
tel meeting at the Victoria Hotel, O’Hal-
loran Hill 10.30am and departing
11.30am. Everyone is welcome. Please
book with MIKE GREENWOOD if you
would like to come so the venues can
be advised of numbers attending.
