MG Car Club of South Australia
W
PRESIDENTS REPORT From.. Allan Semmler
ell another year has been and gone, and I hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year period. A couple of club events in December that Rae and I attended deserve a mention.
( 1) The MGA Register Christmas lunch at the Balhannah Hotel under the control of Sandra was a great day. Despite the slightly damp conditions there was a good turnout of register vehicles. I have to admit that I was not one of them and decided not to take the clean and shiny Twin Cam out on the day as the roof was off and I was too lazy to put it on.
( 2) The Annual Club Christmas Dinner held on the 16 th of December at the club rooms attended by about 80 members was a great night as always with food supplied by Aussie Ripper Roasts. Thanks to Bev for handling the bookings, Berry and his apprentice bar helpers, Dick, Adrian, Rae and Bev for helping with the setup for the night and to the many who helped with the clean up after the event, especially the dish washers and wipers, as the club dishwasher is in need of some maintenance.
Father Christmas and his trusty elf, again blessed us with their presence.( Not sure but it could have been Leyland and Laurie in disguise!!) Some members recognised by Father Christmas for their contributions to the club included, Peter Coulson our club IT guru( a wiz bang $ 5 computer game to keep his mind active) Dick Manning( a packet of brightly coloured
6 band aids as he had run out following a number of recent medical emergencies) Adrian Ward( a lovely little flowery n o t e b o o k) L a u r i e F o o d y( photographs of speed signs to remind him what they look like) Jason Edwards( a small plastic bike to remind him that bikes travel on two wheels not cars) Laurie Houghton( a magnifying glass to help with his spelling whilst compiling the club magazine) and Ian Curwen-Walker( a laminated Google map of his home in case he gets lost) Photos page 44 The Nat. Meeting“ winner take all” Xmas raffle was won by Geoff Glasson who graciously donated all the prizes back to ticket holders until they were all gone, thanks Geoff.
The major event on the club calendar for 2017 is without doubt the National Meeting being held over the Easter long weekend here in Adelaide. Tim, Bev and their committee are up to their eyeballs organising this event. This is a big commitment by our club and I am sure all members appreciate the time and effort that is required by the committee to ensure a successful outcome. The estimated number of attendees is in the region of 350 – 400. The latest information that I have is that members from Victoria have already booked 40 rooms for the event. I don’ t have a number of entrants from SA at this time but urge all members to attend to help make this a memorable event for the South Australian club.
