MG Car Club of South Australia PRE-WAR & T REGISTER From...John Bray & Photos by David McNabb PREWAR & T REGISTER MEETING. THE RAINBOW CONNECTION AT THE STANLEY BRIDGE TAVERN 2 November 2017 T he Register November dining meet- ing at the Tavern , Verdun was an overwhelming event in many ways con- sidering the huge support from members of the register and special guests. I had booked the dining room for 35, added another 5 ish in the afternoon 61 actu- ally arrived, seats at tables were eagerly taken up by early comers. Apologies were received from Colin Whyatt, Ian Buckley, Gordon Brice, Brian Forth, Maurice Linehan, Ron Jel- lett, Simon Ewart. Bob & Shelley Bazzica, David Mc Naughton Register vehicles included 14 T series, 2 Y series & 1 NA ( on trailer) Welcome to guests. We were delighted to have special peo- ple attend on the night, given that the previous Friday it was the funeral of the great Peter Ivey who you will read about in the magazine with two fine tributes from Don Offler and David McNabb. Peter’s wife Elaine and daughter Leanne, Don & Sue Offler, Max & Bernie Tilbrook. Don and Max are long time members of the MG Car Club and were great friends of Peter and Elaine. THE RAINBOW CONNECTION Elaine was able to address those pre- sent , it was just wonderful that she was able to stand and speak about Peter, his life and special bond with our car club since 1956. The celebration for Peter’s life held the previous Friday at Lobethal included a visual and audio presentation song by the Carpenters, The Rainbow Connec- tion and Elaine was able to share that and another encounter with the rainbow following the funeral prior to Peter’s in- ternment. It has been an emotional time most cer- tainly however Peter Ivey the legend has left his footprints on the car club in many ways as you will read in the club jour- nals and tributes that follow. The Ivey Fuel Consumption Test, initi- ated by Peter has invoked many memo- ries and “heroes” are now stepping for- ward out of the woodwork to immortalise their prowess with him in the consump- tion of copious quantities of beer going from pub to pub. I speak of Ian Buck- ley : winner 1975, David Mc Nabb win- ner 1983, Andrew Willington : runner up on numerous occasions, known as an “outstanding performer” , finally Reg O’Malley & Ian Curwen-Walker fine at- tendees, maybe not winners but recog- nised for achievement on merit. Elaine however has Peter’s notebook that he kept which will reveal all I am told. SOMERLED WINES HAHNDORF. The only remaining patrons that were able to “squeeze” into the dining room were Rob Moody and his family who run the cellar door in Hahndorf, Rob was a former wine maker at Penfolds and made the famous Grange Hermitage. They are keen to entertain the Register at their cellar door sometime, I think that they were overcome by the size of the roll out of cars in the carpark and the buzz in the room. FINE DINING I had no complaints from anyone on the food and service, thank you for being so patient , it was a fun night for sure. 32
