MG Car Club of South Australia
W
PRESIDENTS REPORT From.. Allan Semmler
ell less than one month to
Christmas, lots happening in the car club, the pig on a spit night was a great success thanks to the efforts of Mick Mitolo( Head Chef) and Peter Coulson( Chief Organizer) and to all the helpers in setting up and cleaning up.
Over $ 1000 was raised, that will be of great help to the finances of the club. The Annual Christmas Party is almost upon us( Friday the 16 th) if you have not booked yet you need to get in touch with Bev Waters A. S. A. P. as space is limited. Cost is $ 15.00 per head( subsidized by the club) Aussie Ripper Roasts will again be the caterers for the night.
As I write this things yet to happen in November are, 1. Climb to the Eagle. 2. Classic Adelaide Rally 3. The Victoria Park Festival of Speed. I know a good number of club members are participating in these events. Unfortunately the club finances took a bit of a hit in October when our bar fridge decided to pack it in with a repair cost of $ 1360.00.
A bit of news for the racing enthusiasts, I mentioned sometime ago that Supaloc Racing had fitted a 3D printed plastic inlet manifold to the 4 wheel drive Turbo Charged Lambo. The
reasoning behind this was that the original A l u m i n u m p a r t weighed 14Kg. as against the plastic one’ s 2Kg. In late October during testing at Mallalla a reasonably loud bang emanated from the car caused by the manifold disintegrating, the cause of this was eventually traced to a broken cam shaft drive chain causing a number valves to remain open allowing large amounts of fuel and air mixture to be forced back into the inlet manifold.( See picture below) The moral of this story is that if any of you racing members have a 3D printed Inlet Manifold on your MG’ s, keep a close check on your timing chain!!“ This advice is not applicable to owners of push rod cars” This is my last report for 2016 so I wish all members and their families a fantastic and safe Christmas and a successful 2017.
