Sunday March 10th was a brilliant day with perfect weather for flying and the third annual Open Day was well attended by flyers and public.
It is difficult to obtain publicity in advance with a limited budget, so it was surprising to see the number of cars parked on the hill.
Tony Halesowen and Clive Peachey manned the BBQ, selling sausages and cold drinks, while the 28 registered fliers enjoyed good flying.
During the day Ross and Hayden Purdy demonstrated their“ Wireless Copilot” setup – It gives voice to altitude, battery voltage etc – no need to look at a readout – just listen! Sounded great on the PA system!
John Dykes kept everyone informed on the PA system and had some great background music.
Stewart Irvine impressed with his EDF Meteor and Sabre. Phil Davies did some great Heli 3D demos Ross McDonnell flew his little electric Witch but had a little trouble with the breeze. Chris Bruce’ s Fletcher did some lovely topdressing runs, Chris Jackson’ s“ Hotliner” made impressive noises on its( brief) vertical climbs to great height, pushing the limits of our 900ft ceiling and everyone enjoyed as much flying as they wanted with everything from a small Lazy Bee to Warbirds and Aerobatic models.
After a lucky draw from the registration numbers several copies of the 50th Nats History books were distributed, Wayne Lester scored a 4 litre jug of glo fuel and John Sladen won the“ Sunrise” foamie aerobatic ARF
