Thiruvananthapuram is a unique city in many ways . The city stretches over an undulated land between the green mountains of the Western Ghats and the Lakshadweep Sea . It is strategically positioned on a major international sea route and it is also connected by air with all major global locations . It has a historical and heritage importance , with many monuments and historical landmarks . Thiruvananthapuram is known for its natural beauty , moderate and comfortable climate , and diverse natural attractions like mountains , spice gardens , wildlife , beaches , backwaters , and so on .
The city is fast growing in its population and innumerable activities . Business , educational institutions and higher education centres , government offices , administrative centres , hospitality centres , tourism , Information Technology , medical centres , etc are creating unprecedented congestion in the city . For a streamlined scientific and comfortable planning and development of the city a detailed Master Plan was essential .
