1. What does sustainable development mean and how can we live more sustainably?

TEACHING STRATEGIES
with group works students will research and learn about the problems of our planet and design
leaflets to explain people the problem and also to invite them to take actions to help our planet.
TEACHING METHOD
Group work: an effective method to motivate students, encourage active learning, develop key
critical thinking, communication and decision-making skills.
ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION
STARTER ACTIVITY:
Show different environmental problems:
Water pollution, Air pollution, Traffic congestion, Landfill, Deforestation.
NEXT ACTIVITY:
Ask the children to think about how much water they and their family use in an average week in
their homes and gardens.
They could produce a table showing the different uses: brushing teeth, cooking, watering garden.
Each group have to think of a way they could reduce their water usage.
HOMEWORK:
Students have to measure the amount of water wasted if they leave the tap running when they are
brushing their teeth.
