of known for that after awhile. When I first moved to Los Angeles, I asked to sing and write for an all blonde girl, pop group for one day. There was a moment where I wanted to murder all of those bobble head divas. So I quit after one day in the studio.
Carla: I’m actually very introverted and shy. When I was young I wouldn’t talk to anyone. My grandmother put me in violin and singing lessons and noticed the only time I wasn’t shy was when I was on a stage in front of people.
Henry: I have a passion for cooking and eating healthy. Even though I like to sample the devil’s cough syrup, I still like to live a healthy lifestyle.
DDR: Heidi and Carla, bothof you are known for being strong/ positive female influences in the metal scene,how important is that to the both of you and what advice would you have for other aspiring female vocalists wanting to get involved with music?
Heidi: That’s hugely important for both of us. The boys included! Carla and I have been working together in music for 7 years now. During those years EVERYONE told us “NO!” and for us to give up! They constantly pushed us down until we learned how to fight for this. I believe that this is something that most women in this business had to go through. Persistence and a fighting drive would be what I would tell every girl to have. Hard work pays off regardless of your gender.
Carla: I am honored to be a positive influence. Music was all I had growing up and it definitely saved my life, so I understand its power. I think my main piece of advice to aspiring female vocalists would be to practice perseverance. Hone your craft, put the work in and don’t stop believing in yourself. It doesn’t happen overnight. It may take you fifteen years. In the end, living your dream for even a moment is worth the years of struggle.
DDR: What where some of your biggest fears when starting out with Butcher Babies?
Heidi: Something that worked in our favor is that we were afraid of SHIT! I think that people don’t know how powerful they really are when they
put their minds to it. However, when we started we were blind to how
cruel people can be. So, we grew thick skin really fast. Not only did
that thick skin help my career but, it also helped me become a stronger person in my own life. Having thick skin is powerful. Nothing other people say can or will hurt me ever again.
Carla: The funny thing is, starting off I don’t think there was fear involved at all. We just wanted to start a band with our friends...We just wanted to have a good time. We hoped we would do well, but I don’t know that we envisioned it becoming what it is today. The early days of a band are easy. You still have plenty of time for a job, for relationships, for life...I think fear set in for me when I lost
the time for those things. I couldn’t afford my home anymore because I couldn’t work a regular job because of our touring schedule. I suddenly rarely saw my husband, etc. You start wondering if it’s worth it. What if it fails and you’ve lost everything you loved in the process? BUT, when you hit the stage and the kids are singing along with you, all those fears go away and you remember why you do it in the first place. I think that the last couple years have solidified that we are on the right path.
DDR: Touring for you starts on the 27th, what can fans expect this time around? Looking towards the upcoming tour schedule, what are some things that you are most excited about?
Heidi: Besides the constant stage party, they can expect a lot of new music! We always throw surprises in there though. Carla: Well one thing they can expect is a sneak peak of some new tunes! We are so excited to start playing some of the songs off of our new album live. I can not WAIT to go to Australia for Soundwave. Not only is this an honor to be a band on this festival, but it’s an even bigger honor to be included on such a massively talented line-up. DREAM COME TRUE!!!
Carla- I love the festival dates because not only are we playing to large, riled up crowds, but we get to see our favorite bands play too.
DDR: Ok, one more question for you both, is there anything you would like to say to your fans around the world?
