so it had to be Jello Biafra and the something or others. We ko'ed all kinds of great band names, I couldnt call the band Osama Mcdonald after all (laughing) Nor could I call the band "Free Drugs" like I couldn't sticker all the albums and say "Here, this includes free drugs!"

Mike: Where do you want to take this new band, or what direction do you see it going, or will it mirror your past work?ello: I try to stay the fuck away from academically trying to evaluate my own work. I believe when you get too self conscious about shit like that, your not totally living your life anymore. I don't worry about direction, I haven't had a chance to pull away and write the next batch of songs yet. Something I hope willl be well along by the time Punk Rock Bowling Music Fest in Las Vegas happens, although I don't even know how many if any will be ready by then. I have to temper myself and number one, not judge any songs by the reaction in a mosh pit. Number two, just write whatever I feel like finishing, there are always lots of fertile ideas. Create a band and see what works, that will define the direction of the band. For me, everything I have done from the Dead Kennedys, to spoken word, to now; its all one big body of work. I hear reviewers say "This artist is really starting to mature" and I think "Uh Oh, I might want to listen to this one before I buy it!" (laughing) For me, if anything, the best thing is to avoid maturing as an artist. As far as the direction of my music, it's me trying to

widen the base of the punk pyramid, or at least my own. I am

really proud that no two of my albums have ever sounded alike. Even the two LARD albums are

noticiably different from each other. I don't ever worry about any of that, whatever comes out comes out.

Mike : Finally is there anything you would like to say to your fans?

Jello: Ah, I can't put it in a sound byte. Why do you think my spoken word shows are so damn long or why my lyrics are so damn wordy? I'm just not good at nice neat and tidy sound bytes to explain my entire world view.(laughing)
