Metal Bulletin Global Transmission Linepipe Market | Seite 8
Strategic prospects for the transmission linepipe market, 2013 – 2033
3. The evolution and structure of the global large diameter
linepipe market
India is next in line by pipeline length. Most of India’s network is onshore.Crude oil consumption in India is
23% of the world average and natural gas consumption only 11% of the word average, so there is much
upside so long as energy costs do not become prohibitive.
Australia is next by pipeline length. The country possesses significant energy resources which are presently
being exploited. The largest pipeline networks today are supplying natural gas for domestic use, with a
smaller offshore component. As noted elsewhere in this report, Australia is also developing LNG (largely for
shipment to Asia) and also developing coal bed methane (CBM).

Germany has a developed onshore natural gas supply network, much of which is involved with the import of
natural gas from Russia.
Algeria is a major source of natural gas and the country contains significant lengths of natural gas
transmission pipelines.
Brazil, Kazakhstan, France, Italy and Indonesia complete the list of countries that comprise 80% of the
world’s transmission pipeline length.
