21st International
Recycled
Aluminium
Conference • 3-5 November 2013 • Shangri La Hotel, Dubai
Globally the aluminium recycling business
continues to grow as more and more of the
metal is consumed in packaging, transport,
construction and other applications. But the
centre of gravity of the recycling business is
veering east towards the more rapidly
developing markets – be it in Eastern Europe,
Central Asia or the Asian Pacific Rim. Imported
and, increasingly, domestically generated and
collected scrap are feeding new secondary
smelting and remelting capacity in these regions
– as recyclers in higher-cost areas grapple with
ever tighter margins. Europe has seen some
casualties of late, and long-established
merchants and smelters are now having to
refocus and reposition to remain in the game
globally. It is not all plain sailing: China is seeing its
costs rising, and environmental legislation is
making scrap imports and entry barriers to
recycling more complex and expensive.
Responding to this eastwards shift in recycling
growth, Metal Bulletin Events is this year taking
its International Recycled Aluminium Conference
to Dubai, at the heart of the Arabian Gulf
aluminium arena and easily accessible for
delegates from all around the globe. While the
Middle East is more readily associated with
primary smelting, urbanisation, industrialisation
and the development of a downstream
fabricating sector are giving rise to a rapidly
growing recycling business: according to a recent
Frost & Sullivan report, recycling tonnages in the
GCC will rise from 292,000 tonnes in 2010 to
nearly 600,000 tonnes by 2017. How much of this
new scrap source will be available for export and
the region’s recycling needs will be key points for
discussion at the 21st International Recycled
Aluminium Conference – the global gathering
place for examining what is driving this sector at
world, regional and national level.
Key topics for discussion:
Who should attend?
l Conversion margins and the bottom line: what makes the difference between sinking
or swimming?
l Scrap generators, merchants
and processors
l Chinese industry growth – will new legislation and rising costs put the brakes on?
l Scrap flows and availability – how are these being affected by global manufacturing
and demand?
l Automotive and packaging dynamics – implications for recyclers
l Repositioning for survival and success – what options for the merchant and recycler?
l Sorting, processing and melting innovations for more efficient operation
l Middle East aluminium industry growth and implications for regional recycling
l Secondary refiners and remelters
l Primary smelters looking to increase
casthouse scrap mix
l Rolling mills, extruders and fabricators
l Die casters, steel mills, carmakers
l Plant and equipment suppliers brokers,
financiers and investors and trends

Arabal 2013
5-7 November 2013
St Regis Hotel, Abu Dhabi
Why not make the most of your visit to the Gulf and take in the Arabal conference being held in Abu
Dhabi immediately after the Recycled Aluminium Conference? Arabal is the premier trade event for
the Middle East’s aluminium industry and is attended by every single primary aluminium
manufacturer in the region as well as many companies from across the globe. The conference,
which this year is being hosted by Emirates Aluminium, will examine the global economic outlook,
smelter and downstream developments in the GCC, primary aluminium market trends and LME
warehousing, and will feature a visit to Emal’s state-of-the-art smelter and a Gala Dinner. For more
information on the conference visit www.arabal.com
