What do you wish you could tell parents in Mesquite about early childhood education? It’s extremely important. Education is not the same anymore. Back in the day, when you went to kindergarten it was more of a 4- or 5-year-old program. Today, it’s more of a first-grade program. The expectations of students today versus years ago has changed. The importance of childhood education is crucial to creating a solid foundation so they won’t miss any stages of development. Make sure you’re getting an academic program for your young children, and be cautious when choosing facilities. Read, play and talk with your kids every day. It is so important for vocabulary development, math skills and comprehension. We do testing three times a year on our students to monitor their academic growth. We also do portfolio assessments, progress reports and parent conferences. We’re continuously monitoring their academics. What I stress to my parents is that it’s not a pass or fail [kind of test]. The purpose is to know their progress so we can fill in any academic gaps. If there are any learning issues, we’re able to identify them before they get into public school. What is your favorite part of being part of early childhood education? Watching young minds grow and learn. It’s magical, it really is. Every day is a new adventure, it’s so cool. It’s the neatest thing.
