SILK RD LIVERPOOL by Si Hall & Arthur Gold

Silk Rd is located just around the corner from James Street station at Beetham Plaza , Liverpool . It is the North West ’ s newest and most exciting dining out sensation offering a genuine journey of flavours from the Pacific to the Mediterranean brought about from the owners Chris & Javier ’ s own personal travels on this ancient trail .
The décor is funky , colourful and very welcoming . The concept of the restaurant is in the name , dishes from along the Silk Road which was the trade route stretching from China through the Middle East to Europe .
The menu has plenty to offer for everyone and as is the norm with the Mersey Life team we opted to try as many dishes as possible .
We were served several small plates and the first one we tried was Buttered Prawns . This is a traditional dish from Sri Lanka , juicy prawns in a beautiful subtly spiced sauce , served on a bed of fluffy rice , we kept going back to this dish .
We then tried the Nasi Goreng which is an Indonesian fried rice topped with a perfectly fried egg . This had a spicy heat that built up in layers leaving a pleasant spicy warmth on your tongue .
We also had a couple of steaks - the Caprese which is a take on the classic caprese salad but warmed so the cheese melts with a fillet steak in the centre . The Apizuna , a fillet topped with a classic blue cheese sauce and accompanied with cubed potatoes , both of which were delicious .
The Moroccan Salad was a mix of cous cous , pomegranate seeds , goats cheese & mixed leaf all tossed in their own honey mustard dressing - very fresh tasting and the goats cheese worked perfectly .
Sea bass choo chee - Sea bass fillets , lightly floured & fried until crispy then topped with a tasty Thai sauce , fantastic crispy skin and moist flaky fish which is not overpowered by the sauce .
The Ribs were meaty and glazed with sticky sweet and spicy sauce , then came more meat with the lamb chops which were grilled to perfection and served on a bed of cous cous .
We finished with the lightest tiramisu which was absolutely beautiful , and churros which came with a glossy chocolate sauce .
Personally we love the idea of small plate dining , and Silk Rd has mastered it with silky precision .
Silk Rd have restaurants at Beetham Plaza Liverpool , Heswall and Bramhall . If you ’ ve not been before , this is excellent .
10 out of 10 .
