GET YOUR CHRISTMAS TREE COLLECTED IN JANUARY WHILST RAISING FUNDS FOR ST . JOHN ’ S HOSPICE
LIVERPOOL ONE KICKS OFF CHRISTMAS WITH A HUGE TREE GIVEAWAY
Liverpool ONE kicked off the festive season by giving out thousands of mini Christmas trees to visitors .
St . Joseph ’ s Hospice will be out collecting Christmas trees from across North Liverpool and Sefton in January to raise important funds for the hospice .
Booking is now open so residents and businesses from Waterloo , Crosby , Thornton , Hightown , Formby , Maghull , Aintree , Bootle , Litherland and Netherton can book their collection slot before they have even bought their tree .
The Christmas tree collections will take place on 8th and 9th January for a suggested donation of £ 10 . Christmas trees can also be taken to the hospice , on Ince Road in Thornton , over the same weekend for a suggested donation of just £ 5 .
This year ’ s tree collection , which raises valuable funds for the hospice each year , will be run entirely by the hospice ’ s fundraising team and its dedicated team of volunteers and supporters . All donated trees will be chipped and used in the hospice grounds so it is a very environmentally friendly way to dispose of your Christmas tree .
Zoë Furnivall , fundraiser at St . Joseph ’ s Hospice , said : “ We will be collecting trees from a large area so we are appealing to anyone with their own van who would like to volunteer for a few hours over the weekend 8th and 9th January . We will provide hot drinks and bacon rolls to keep you going . It ’ s always a fun weekend and it ’ s a great way to kick off the new year as you will be helping to raise money for local hospice care .”
To register your tree for collection , or to volunteer your help , please call us on 0151 932 6044 / 6046 or email events @ stjhospice . org . uk ( collections from postcode areas L9 , L10 , L20 , L21 , L22 , L23 , L30 , L31 , L37 and L38 only ).
Registrations close on Wednesday 5th January or earlier if they reach capacity in your postcode area .
The Big Tree Giveaway coincided with the illumination of the iconic Christmas tree in Paradise Place and the official start of the season at Liverpool ONE . The retail and leisure destination has partnered with The Mersey Forest and Liverpool City Council on this important initiative which is aimed at encouraging more green spaces as well as helping to tackle climate change and create more habitats for wildlife to thrive .
And if you missed out on a tree – there will be further opportunities with thousands more to give out ! Those taking trees home will all be given tips and advice on how to care for them and help them to flourish . There will be a further tree giveaway at Liverpool ONE on Sunday 28th November .
Donna Howitt , Place Strategy Director at Liverpool ONE , added : “ We ’ re well and truly into the Christmas spirit here at Liverpool ONE . It was fantastic to see so many people turning up to mark the start of the festive season – after the year everyone has had . We are delighted to have been able to bring some cheer with all of our festive characters – and the huge tree giveaway too ! It ’ s incredibly important to us that we play our role in tackling climate change and help to improve tree coverage across the city , so we ’ re proud to be supporting this scheme and offering visitors an early Christmas treat to take home .”
Liverpool ONE ’ s Christmas decorations have also been refurbished this year with new energy saving LED bulbs , including all LED lighting in the giant tree – all in a bid to reduce energy consumption across the estate . Visitors were treated to re-enactments of classics such as Jack and the Beanstalk , Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast at Liverpool ONE today , together with performances from West End favourite Dream Girls , with giant crackers and Christmas Belles also on hand to greet passers-by !
Bar Hutte is back beneath the giant tree with its very own doggie grotto and lots of special treats for pet pooches to ensure no-one misses out the festive spirit this year !
