THE TAYLOR FAMILY RAISE FUNDS FOR THE PAIN RELIEF FOUNDATION
Becky , Matt , and Mark of the Taylor family have recently completed the National Three Peaks Challenge to raise awareness and funds for the Pain Relief Foundation .
Their trek was completed in 23hrs 37min , despite challenging conditions on Snowdon . Quick progress was made on the first two mountains with plenty of time to spare but any time gained was needed on the final leg due to poor visibility and the weather taking a turn for the worse .
The Taylor family said ; “ Our mum , Jo , has been dealing with various types of pain since aggressive cancer treatment in 2003 , the worst of which set in around 7 years ago , intensifying in the last couple of years . For Mum , this means constant , dizzying discomfort , which is felt strongest while sitting , preventing her from doing basic things like enjoying a meal . Mum is incredibly stoical and pushes through her condition with laughter and positivity , but as it stands there ’ s no guaranteed treatment for her specific diagnosis .”
To date the family have raised a staggering £ 11,095.25 for the Foundation .
Julie Williams , Charity Manager at The Pain Relief Foundation said : " We are lost for words at this amazing support they given to the charity , thank you so much for choosing Pain Relief Foundation .
" Chronic pain does not kill but it offers a lifetime of agony . This is why we ’ re keen to raise money for a cause which , in our experience at least , rarely gets talked about .
" The Taylor family are right , Chronic pain does not get the recognition it deserves but with your donations we can help change this . Your support powers our life changing research and education .
" Pain is numerically the biggest human problem on the planet although we are all familiar with aches and pains . 14 % of the UK population alone have daily excruciating pain known as chronic pain that is often poorly treated and this can wreck lives .
" Pain is a vital signal to the brain that something is wrong and the doctor can react to potential problems . Normally , within a few days ,
or a week or two the problem clears up and the pain disappears from the injured area . But chronic pain is different it does not go away and often becomes destructive to people ’ s lives . Our quest is to help people live fuller lives pain free . It is a phenomenon to which we still do not have the complete answer .
" Chronic pain affects many conditions including spinal cord injury and Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome ( CRPS ) to backache , sciatica , strokes , fibromyalgia and neuralgias to phantom limb pain and cancer pain , migraine , and many others , all which impact on the quality of daily life . Whilst only a small number of patients have died of a chronic pain condition , there are records of patients taking their own lives to escape the living in constant chronic pain . Research into chronic pain is much under-funded compared with other diseases – yet the cost of treating chronic pain in the NHS exceeds the total cost of treating Aids , Coronary Disease , and Cancer combined , at a cost of £ 10 million to the UK economy .
" What is unknown is the gap between discovering new scientific advances and how these can translate into the best prevention and treatment options for people affected by pain . The Pain Relief Foundation is the only charity with the aims & objectives of conducting research on chronic pain , seeking new methods of treatment to eliminate the suffering which chronic pain causes , using a multidisciplinary approach to fight CHRONIC PAIN .
" UK pain researchers are amongst the best in the world , and we are lucky to have them based here in the Pain Research Institute in Liverpool , but more research funding is needed to develop new treatment for our patients . With help , we can develop further changes that are desperately needed to help the thousands of chronic pain patients . Importantly the new treatments which are produced are distributed to Pain Clinics in hospitals nationwide , our work benefits chronic pain sufferers locally , nationally . In addition , our education programme which provides much needed education for all health professionals including consultants , doctors , nurses , and therapists has gained a global audience attend not only by professionals from the UK but globally ."
