IN BRIEF
ZIPPING THROUGH THE AIR FOR STICK ‘ N ’ STEP
NEW VISITOR EXPERIENCE AT CITY GEM TO USE LATEST TECHNOLOGY
A team of three has just completed the fastest zipline in the world to raise money for cerebral palsy charity Stick ‘ n ’ Step .
Tom Hughes and Jonathan Thornton from Attach Digital in Liverpool joined forces with Lee Bridgwater to undertake the challenge on ‘ Velocity 2 ’ in Snowdonia . So far , they have raised over £ 1,000 to support the charity . Lee Bridgwater ’ s son Oliver , 9 , who has cerebral palsy , attends the Stick ‘ n ’ Step centre in Wallasey for weekly conductive education sessions .
Following the challenge , Tom Hughes commented , “ During the first lockdown , we reached out to Stick ‘ n ’ Step and offered our time and resources pro bono to design and build them a new website . We got to meet a number of the Stick ‘ n ’ Step team and saw the great work they do , so when the Zip Line Challenge came up we knew we just had to get involved ! We were nervous at the top looking down , a very long way down , but we ’ re so glad we did it and for a great cause too !”
Lee Bridgwater said , “ My son Oliver started at Stick ‘ n ’ Step three years ago and he has made so much progress with his strength and social development . He loves going there to see his friends and all the conductors and he always has fun . It was important for me to raise money for the charity as it has helped Oliver so much and made our family life a little easier . Stick ‘ n ’ Step is a very important charity as it is self-funded and needs every penny it can raise . I hope to do more charity events for it in the future .”
Stick ‘ n ’ Step Interim Head of Fundraising , Samantha Lee , said , “ Everyone at Stick ’ n ’ step would like to say a huge thank you and congratulations to Tom , Jonathan and Lee . If anyone is interested in taking part in the Zipwire next year or you are interested in undertaking another fundraising challenge , please email us your initial interest via fundraising @ sticknstep . org .”
Stick ‘ n ’ Step offers support services to children with cerebral palsy and their families . The charity provides the children with totally free of charge conductive education sessions , allowing them to gain the skills they need to live more independent lives . Over 100 children from across the region usually attend these sessions weekly or twice weekly at the charity ’ s Wallasey and Runcorn centres .
Work has been taking place behind the scenes on a brandnew visitor experience , which will open later this year at an iconic Liverpool landmark .
The History Whisperer will be the focal point of a new attraction at St George ’ s Hall located in the heart of the UNESCO Word Heritage Site – set to open late in the summer .
Behind the new addition is a team of the country ’ s leading tech organisations :
• Gazooky Studios – a BAFTA and Prix Europa award-winning storytelling and world class XR technology company .
• Immersive Interactive – specialists in mesmerising touch-wall interactivity
• Music in Mind – an industry-leader when it comes to creating rousing , witty and deeply moving music and sound effects .
The consortium was officially appointed back in February after successfully responding to the Hall ’ s tender process , following a £ 250,000 award from the Department of Culture , Media and Sport , which formed part of the government ’ s Culture Recovery Fund .
This funding will pave the way for the new visitor experience , which will be a welcome addition to the Hall ’ s mission to recover following the Covid-19 pandemic .
Details of the attraction are being kept under wraps , but audiences can expect to be plunged into a world where the past meets the present , and the fascinating social history of Victorian Liverpool and St George ’ s Hall comes to life . As part of the process , the consortium is appealing to members of the public to share their memories of St George ’ s Hall through photographs and videos . These will potentially form part of the attraction .
