Happy New Year to all of my clients , past , current and future ! I hope you had a great time with your families and loved ones unlike some of my subjects of surveillance over the festive period who were having a great time with people they shouldn ’ t have been seeing .
It ’ s a busy time during Christmas and new year for Private Investigators who deal with a lot of infidelity issues . In my personal opinion I think it ’ s a case of ‘ New Year , New Me ’ and a fresh start for people who want closure on past problems with partners . I ’ ve been that busy with this side of my business over the last few weeks , I ’ ve had to take my wife out on some jobs to ‘ blend in ’ as a couple in restaurants .
Even though she likes to go out and have a meal , she doesn ’ t like coming to work with me as I use her as a sort of ‘ prop ’! Only last week , I had to go into a bar and sit next to a subject and record their conversation . We got settled and I asked her what she wanted to drink . She said she didn ’ t want one and then asked what time we had to stay until ! Patience is everything in my job . I bought her a drink as it would look odd that she didn ’ t have one and explained we can go home when the male I was following went home ... I don ’ t think she will be going with me to work very often after that !
I have also received some absolutely ridiculous calls as enquiries within the last fortnight . One male called me and , in his words ‘ Hi , I would like your help in stopping some medical treatment going ahead on someone ’. I asked what the medical treatment was and on who . It transpired it was an operation on himself . I duly suggested he contacted the hospital and cancelled it .
Another person called and asked me to find an old friend who they used to work with . ‘ No problem ’ I replied , ‘ what are the details ?’, ‘ Well erm his name is Stephen and we used to do some cash in hand work in Liverpool cleaning ’. ‘ Ok , who did you work for and what is his full name ?’. The person told me he didn ’ t want to give the employers details as he may get into trouble for paying cash and in any case he had no further details apart from his name was Stephen from Liverpool . Unfortunately , as good as I am at tracing people , I do not have a crystal ball in my kit bag and had to kindly explain I would be looking for a needle in a haystack .
I have been following one male this past few weeks who really is making a fool out of his insurance claim . My subject , who says he struggles to walk and can ’ t get from the bathroom to the bedroom at home without falling is being paid a lot of money each month fraudulently . Unluckily for him , I have been on his tail and have obtained video footage which I found it hard to hold my camera still due to laughing in disbelief . Only this week , due to the cold weather , I have evidenced him going to a local hardware store and purchasing large , heavy bags of salt for his driveway . At no point did he fall when he was lifting those . I also followed him to a gym in Chester , so I made my way inside and asked for a tour around which the staff obliged with . I walked in with my small covert camera and filmed him running on a treadmill at a fair old speed . He won ’ t be able to afford the gym membership by the time I ’ ve finished with him .
Having been in the Police for so long , I knew there were some bad people out there who are willing to cheat , defraud and do anything so long as it benefits them but since starting my own Private Investigation business , it has genuinely surprised me on how many people are actually obtaining things like claims and benefits which they aren ’ t entitled to , even down to some people claiming single person discount on council tax when they are living with someone .
