Gusbourne Rosé [ 2018 ] The Gusbourne Rosé is the wineries most recent sparkling wine release . This was , on the one hand , a delicate wine . On the other it was marked by rich and intense flavours . Made from a blend of Pinot Noir , Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier , you get another pure wine with lovely acidity . This was a perfect match for a trio of marinated Hooton beetroot , pickled golden saffron , blackberry and candy carpaccio with plant based soft cheese and autumn leaves .
Gusbourne Blanc de Noirs [ 2018 ] Another white sparkling wine . This time , again as the name suggests , we have a sparkling wine made from one of the estates red grapes . This wine , made from 100 % Pinot Noir , had power , crisp acidity , with a rich and refreshing pallet . A pure sparkling wine which was served alongside pan roasted fillet of Cornish turbot with slow braised ox cheek , edamame beans and red wine jus .
Gusbourne Pinot Noir [ 2020 ] This was the one still wine of the night . It was unmistakeably Pinot on the nose . Dark raspberries , wild strawberry , a touch of black cherry , a hint of smoke and cranberries . For a New World Pinot , this wasn ’ t overly sweet or creamy ( as some can be ). It was very pure and a wine I would put very much more in the Burgundian category than the New World category ( so high praise indeed ). This was a wonderfully fresh wine , with complexity and a lovely lingering finish . The wine was paired perfectly with pan roast loin of Scottish Highland red deer venison with McSween haggis , black winter truffle , cavolo nero , girolles , parsnip puree , damson and sauce Grand Veneur .
Gusbourne Brut Reserve Late Disgorge [ 2013 ] The oldest wine on offer from 2013 . This wine , consisting of 68 % Chardonnay and 32 % Pinot Noir , has great acidity , complexity
and has clearly possessed the potential to age wonderfully . You get great red fruit from the Pinot Noir and apple pie , or crumble , with a touch of brioche and , perhaps , a hint of caramel from the Chardonnay . Another great sparkling wine , a Limited Addition wine , which was served with a selection of British cheeses , quince , truffle scented local honey and apple and red onion chutney .
The undisputable fact is that English wine has , over a number of years , gone from strength to strength . Overall sales of English wine have increased markedly over the last eight years or so . By 2040 the industry is predicted to be producing 40 million bottles a year , equating to a retail value of £ 1 billion . The industry has also identified that exports of English wine could reach £ 350 million within the same time frame . These are astonishing statistics .
The Gusbourne winery is one of the real success stories when it comes to English wines . Their wines can be purchased directly from the cellar door or online . The Gusbourne Blanc de Blancs [ 2018 ] and the Gusbourne Blanc de Noirs [ 2018 ] can be both be found selling at £ 59 a bottle ; the Gusbourne Rosé [ 2018 ] at £ 49 a bottle ; the Gusbourne Pinot Noir [ 2020 ] at £ 35 a bottle ; and the Gusbourne Brut Reserve Late Disgorge [ 2013 ] at £ 99 a bottle . They are all fine in the true sense of the word and , perhaps , one of the best examples of ….. you get what you pay for ! Perhaps , unsurprisingly , you will find the Gusbourne wines on the Art School ’ s wine list .
