TRI-4-LIFE - 20 YEARS OF AMAZING ADVENTURES !
The tri-4-life team celebrated its 20th year anniversary in style - a year later than planned due to the imposed COVID restrictions of 2020 . The tri-4-life family met at The Little Fox in Thornton Hough on Saturday 20th November 2021 , 19 years after its first team dinner there in 2002 , to celebrate their amazing charity , community and sporting challenges and achievements from the past twenty years .
Guests for the evening included team members , supporters , family , and friends and The Deputy Lord Mayor of Liverpool , Councillor Roy Gladden and the Lady Mayoress Ros Gladden who share a long history as part of the team . The evening was opened with a welcome speech by MC Robert Beaver and a special ‘ Remembrance & Friendship ’ tribute of The Last Post by Royal Marine Bugler Jordon Wilson .
Tri-4-life Event Director Liam Hanlon gave a brief history of how the team of family and friends was formed in a small Cheshire Tea Room and developed with regular training at Byrne Avenue Baths in Rock Ferry with coaching from Alan Kirkham at Merseytri and Jim Tinsley of City of Liverpool Open Water Swimming Club .
Speaking about the event , Liam Hanlon said : " The adventures we have shared together over the years have touched the hearts of hundreds of thousands of people around the world and our small contribution to humanity will ripple throughout generations to come .
" The many local , regional , national & international charities & good causes that have benefited from our philanthropic endeavours and the hundreds of thousands of pounds raised from our events is a tribute to the special bond we share in the tri-4-life family .
" The legacy and footprint of our roadshows through engagement with young people and our message of healthy living & lifestyle will continue to influence the dreams and possibilities of what can be done . For everyone in attendance who has contributed in any way to the success of what we have achieved , I am eternally grateful for every step we have taken , every stroke we have swam , every path we cycled and every mountain we have climbed together .
From their first appearance in the Liverpool 10K in the year 2000 tri- 4-life have continued to defy what is possible with their unique across continent blend of charity , community and participation in some amazing triathlon challenges . These include the European Challenge 2006 , tri-4-life USA 2012 , Arch 2 Arc 2013 , Great Britain & Ireland 2014 , BIG 7 Swim Extreme 2015 , tri-4-life Spitfire Heart Lesotho 2016 , tri-4-life C4TC BVI Challenge 2018 , tri-4-life 20 Year Celebration Event , The Great Glen Swim 2020 and looking ahead to their latest event tri-4-life Baruntse 2021 , and the tri-4-life Centenary Everest Challenge 2022 ( more on this soon ).
The team has been officially hosted in Westminster Parliament London , The White House and House of Representatives in Washington DC , Belfast City Hall , The Dáil Éireann and Mansion House in Dublin , Guests at The Royal Palace Maseru Lesotho with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho and Deputy British High Commissioner to South Africa Peter Boxer and City Hall with the Mayor of Durban .
The team have also been hosted as Guests by Orlando Smith Premier and Gus Jaspert Governor of the British Virgin Islands . tri-4-life have been awarded many awards and citations over the years including recognition as a ‘ Model of Good Practice for the European Community ’ by the European Parliament and a Special Recognition Congressional Award presented by Senator Maxine Waters Loss Angels California for our Charity & Community achievements in the United States . The teams ’ achievements have also been recognised by a visit from HRH The Princess Royal , Princess Anne in 2018 .
