MERSEY LIFE TALK TO DAVID CAIN , CHAIRMAN OF PAIN RELIEF FOUNDATION
Mersey Life met with David Cain , Chairman of Pain Relief Foundation to find out how he got involved with the charity , and how our readers and businesses can help support their cause .
David : " I recall the day in October 1991 when Dr Sam Lipton rang me , newly appointed as Chief Executive of the Walton Centre , to ask that I attended his Pain Relief Foundation ( PRF ) Committee meeting . His charismatic style and charm went a long way to get my interest combined with the fact that I was suffering myself at that time with some low back pain , so I was intrigued about the work of PRF .
" Once captured I remain part of the Committee some years later becoming a Trustee and although I moved jobs and worked elsewhere in Liverpool and Manchester , I remained part of that group and now have the privilege of being Chairman .
" I have enjoyed a long career in NHS management and have consistently seen the value of good pain relief in support of patient care particularly those with chronic conditions . The research is invaluable and necessary to support clinical work and new techniques , innovation , and treatments for a whole variety of patients young and old that need help .
" The Charity is highly respected both in its academic outputs , publications and networks around the world and has demonstrated at its annual lecture the significance of some of the most able clinicians involved in pain research and treatments ."
I am a business , how can we support Pain Relief Foundation ? Why not become a Corporate Partnership for 2022 ? A Corporate Partnership with Pain Relief Foundation Charity is a worthwhile way to meet your company ’ s corporate social responsibility needs as well as engaging and uniting your staff behind a worthwhile cause .
There are many ways you can help . The easiest is to donate directly so we as a charity can continue to run effectively and efficiently . Offer staff as volunteers to create your own in-house event ( we will support you ). If you run an in-house Charity of the Year scheme , choose us so more people gain awareness of us .
A good corporate partnership can be mutually beneficial for both charities & sponsors , for our charity we would benefit in increased funding , support & visibility , organisations can benefit from PR , brand building & the chance to make a difference & support such important research .
Here are a few ways you can become involved with Pain Relief Foundation including :
• Making us your Charity of the Year .
• Giving corporate support to one of our high-profile events .
• Donating Gifts in hand ( for example a prize donation for a raffle or auction ).
• Arranging an in-house event such as a coffee morning or bake sale .
• Matched giving ( also known as match funding ) gives your employees the chance to boost their fundraising since their employer matches the money they ' ve raised . Some companies offer this on a pound-forpound basis , while others will specify the amount they ' re prepared to give .
We do recognise that all businesses are different & we are happy to work with you to tailor a partnership to meet your needs . Please do get in contact with us .
Can I leave a gift in my will for Pain Relief Foundation ? It ’ s easy to do & we advise you to chat with your solicitor regarding the options prior to making any decisions . Here are three different ways :
• Residuary : This is what remains of your estate once other gifts and payments and expenses have been made . A residuary gift will keep pace with inflation meaning you are able to choose what proportion of your estate is left to friends , family , or charity .
• Pecuniary : This is a fixed sum of money , like £ 1,000 or £ 10,000 . Of course , it doesn ’ t consider inflation or total value of estate .
• Specific : This means leaving something of value like an item of jewellery .
By donating today , large , or small , you ’ ll be helping to make a difference and please don ’ t forget to GIFT AID it , your donation could be worth 25 % more , helping us fund vital work at no extra cost to you . Her Majesty ’ s Revenue and Customs will add an extra 25p to every £ 1 you give to Pain Relief Foundation . We are registered with the Fundraising Regulator .
May we at Pain Relief Foundation wish you a very Merry Christmas , good health & best wishes for 2022 .
