The impact that you are currently making will propel you and our community forward for years to come . Exciting things are happening in Meridian , and I am so pleased to see the energy and leadership being injected into our community . While you should pause and cherish this moment , I also believe that the best is yet to come .
I encourage each of you to use this platform to continue to grow your leadership skills . In doing so , you will inspire future leaders along the way . Your talents have been on display , and they have allowed you to achieve great success following some of the most challenging times in our history . I challenge you to grow the momentum that you have established and push the boundaries of what we can accomplish together .
Many of you were recognized not only for your professional accomplishments but also for your commitment to serving others . Service to others is the lifeblood of a healthy community . Growing up in a small town , I witnessed my grandfather ’ s service to his community members . His influence of servant leadership was instilled in me at an early age , and I have been involved in giving back since my childhood . I have never forgotten the lessons that I learned from him , and I am proud to continue that legacy .
Being a good neighbor and recognizing the needs of those around us are fundamental principals that we should all employ . Most of the time serving or helping someone costs us nothing . However , the reward for serving is often greater than we anticipate . With that attitude of service and being a good neighbor , you will no doubt continue to positively impact our community .
