Making smart fitness decisions for the New Year

While the majority of New Year resolutions will revolve around health or fitness , only a small percentage of people will actually stick to their plan . So how can you create a resolution and stick with it ?
Be SMART , set smaller goals along the way , and make it fun .
Being SMART about your goals will make it easier to stick with a plan .
When creating your plan , keep the acronym SMART in mind .
Be Specific when writing out your goals . The more specific you are , the more likely you are to achieve them . Along with being specific , your goals should be Measurable .
Tracking daily or weekly activity will help you see your progress . Your goals should be Attainable . Creating unrealistic goals can discourage you and increase the chances of you not achieving your goals . Your goals should be Relevant .
What is the reason behind these particular goals ? How do they relate to your life ? Why did you choose these goals and why are they important to you ? Lastly , your goals should be
Time sensitive . Setting a deadline will help keep you motivated and on track .
Setting a big scary goal is great , however if that big goal takes a while to accomplish , it ’ s a good idea to set mini goals along the way .
These mini goals are an excellent way to measure progress and keep you motivated on the way to accomplishing that big scary goal .

For instance , if overall you want to lose 60 pounds , set 10 pound goals that can be accomplished quicker and easier . If you want to run a marathon , set smaller goals in the meantime , ie : 5k , 10k , half marathon .
Make fitness fun ! If you dread going to the gym or even working out at home , do something a little differently to help you stay consistent . Grab a friend to workout with ; buddy sessions are a great way to hold each other accountable . Change up your routine to keep it interesting . Go for a walk outside instead of walking on the treadmill , or take a HIIT class instead of just working out by yourself .
Mixing it up or trying something new is a great way to break up the monotony and challenge yourself .
