We are all aware that Mother ’ s Day and Memorial Day are observed in May , and Juneteenth and Father ’ s Day in June . But did you know there are many more observances and celebrations during those months ?
As a matter of fact , in every month of the calendar year there are at least 20 awareness , appreciation and no-nonsense observances and / or celebrations . So many , there is a website , Celebrate Every Day National Calendar ( nationaldaycalender . com ) that lists national months , as well as dell . According to the site , there are more than 1,500 national days , so you can literally celebrate every day .

MAY
• American Cheese Month : The American Cheese Society celebrated the first American Cheese Month in October 2011 to spread awareness concerning the growing variety of American cheese available . In 2019 , the observance was moved to May to better support cheese producers .
• Correct Your Posture Month : Correct Your Posture Month encourages us to consciously think about the way we align our bodies during the different activities we perform every day .
• National Stroke Awareness Month : National Stroke Awareness Day was proclaimed in 1989 by President George H . W . Bush . It had been observed for many years before the proclamation . The Centers for Disease Control , the American Heart Association , World Stroke Campaign , and many others have all participated in bringing education , research , and treatment on a global basis .
• National Get Caught Reading Month : The Association of American Publishers founded the Get Caught Reading campaign in 1999 . It ’ s now managed by Every Child a reader and receives support from Lois Lenski Covey Foundation . The campaign runs all year long with May designated as Get Caught Reading Month .
JUNE
• National Give a Bunch of Balloons Month : National Give a Bunch of Balloons Month was submitted by Wanda Carter Roush , author at Ella ’ s Pearl Publishing , to celebrate another day for children dealing with incurable conditions . Their tireless journey with sick days , hospital stays , and missed celebrations makes receiving a bunch of balloons any day in June something for them to smile about . In 2019 , the Registrar at National Day Calendar proclaimed National Give A Bunch of Balloons Month to be observed annually .
• African-American Music Appreciation Month : On June 7 , 1979 , President Jimmy Carter decreed June to be Black Music Month . Each year since Americans have celebrated the iconic music loved by generations . The observance is a way of showing appreciation for the musical contributions of the United State ’ s African-American musicians , composers , singers and songwriters .
• LGBTQIA Pride Month : Pride Month commemorates the six-day Stonewall riots in Manhattan in 1969 and rallies support for the LGBTQIA community .
The Stonewall Riots were sparked by the police raid of the Stonewall Inn in New York City on June 28 , 1969 . The bar had a reputation for being friendly to the LGBT community , but in the 1960s in New York , certain behavior was considered inappropriate and even illegal .
Communities across the country hold parades , workshops , celebrations , and concerts . Marches for civil rights and awareness take place .
• National PTSD Awareness Month : National PTSD Awareness Month is a campaign supported by the U . S . Department of Veteran Affairs . The month is dedicated to raising awareness about the condition and how to access treatment . June 27th is also National PTSD Awareness Day .
According to the National Center for PTSD , between 7 and 8 percent of the population will experience Post Traumatic Stress Disorder ( PTSD ) during their lifetime .
