The Max … Exhibition — Drawn Inside the Margins : The Diverse
World of Ezra Jack Keats
Through April 16
The MAX celebrates Ezra Jack Keats and the diverse characters he brought to life in its newest exhibition Drawn inside the Margins : The Diverse World of Ezra Jack Keats . The exhibition features 30 original illustrations from books such as “ The Snowy Day , Goggles !,” “ Louie ” and “ My Lost Dog ,” along with photographs and other related ephemera .
A children ’ s book author and illustrator , Keats illustrated more than 80 children ’ s books , 22 of which he authored . The son of Polish Jewish immigrants , Keats was raised in Brooklyn , New York during the Great Depression and came of age in America during World War II . He experienced poverty and racism and could relate to other ethnicities who faced the same . His books were set in the inner city and featured ethnically and economically diverse characters .
The artwork is on loan from The de Grummond Children ’ s Literature Collection at the University of Southern Mississippi Libraries .

Catherine Bishop leads this educational talk about Irish dance with demonstration by performers from St . Andrew ’ s Episcopal School . Catherine is trained in Irish dance and certified to teach in Ireland , and earned a master ’ s degree from the University of Limerick on a Fulbright scholarship . Free and open to the public .
Kentucky Ham Meal

The annual meal that has given much to many in the Meridian area for more than half a century returns for two days of homemade biscuits , ham , red eye gravy , scrambled eggs , grits , homemade jams and jellies along with coffee .
A major fundraiser for the Meridian church , proceeds go to local and statewide causes . Tickets for the Kentucky Ham Meal may be purchased from church members , at the church office or on the days of the meal . Eat-in , take-out available ; drive-thru open for pick-up orders .
