American music masters Sam Bush , Mike Marshall and Edgar Meyer join with George Meyer for the kind of special collaboration usually heard only at a bluegrass festival . Bush and Marshall are mandolin virtuosos rooted in bluegrass . The Meyers ( George on acoustic bass , son Edgar on violin ) come from the classical world . Together , they make acoustic music that can only be categorized as “ amazing .” You ’ ll hear works from the 1999 genre-bending album “ Short Trip Home ” ( which featured Bush , Marshall and the elder Meyer ), plus new music written for this tour . Four musical stars are coming together in a burst of creativity ; don ’ t miss it !

February is Black History Month . To celebrate , The MAX is honoring three black actresses and activists who hail from Mississippi : Juanita Moore , Beah Richards , and Tonea Stewart . Learn more about these women who exemplify black excellence in their lives and art .
— Juanita Moore : Born in Greenwood in 1914 , Juanita Moore was a film , television , and stage actress . She began her career in films at a time when there were few roles in Hollywood for African Americans , and appeared in 50 films from the 1930s – 2000 . Moore was nominated for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the 1959 film “ Imitation of Life .”
— Arnett Moore , Juanita ’ s nephew , will present an illustrated talk on her life and career at 1pm ( free with museum admission ) followed by the unveiling of her star on The MAX Walk of Fame ( free and open to the public ).
— Tonea Stewart , actress and Greenwood native , performs “ A Black Woman Speaks ,” based on the poem Vicksburg native Beah Richards wrote and performed in 1950 . Richards , an actress , political activist , and poet , used prose and performance to address topics of race , gender , and class , including the oppression Black women faced in that era . Free with museum admission .
