Whether opting for simple and classic or bright pops of color , the flowers a bride chooses for her wedding will be one of the most eye-catching elements of her big day .
“ Flowers are very important to a wedding . To us , they are second in importance to the bride ,” said Albree Florey , owner of World of Flowers , located at the corner of 23rd Avenue and 16th Street in the old Marshall Florist building .
“ Flowers soften everything , and it doesn ’ t matter how much or how little you have as long as you get the flowers that you want ,” she added .
Regardless of whether the wedding style is traditional , boho , contemporary or a very formal English garden wedding , flowers give brides a chance to highlight their personal taste and uniqueness throughout the event .
“ You can put flowers in just about every element of your wedding ,” said Florey , who has provided floral services for numerous local and out-of-town weddings since she and her husband , Scotty , purchased the florist in 2019 .
From bouquets and boutonnieres to pew ends and entrance wreaths to arches and reception tables to even the wedding cake , fresh flowers can lend elegance , fragrance and beauty to a wedding .
“ We like to work with the bride on her flower choices to make sure what she considers the focal point of the wedding is dramatic enough for her ,” Florey noted .
While roses usually take the top spot in popularity for local ceremonies , other flower choices can be just as stunning .
“ We see beautiful ranunculus , tulips , hydrangeas ,” Florey said . “ Lilies are still beautiful for weddings . Peonies are very , very popular right now .”
Daisies , orchids , dahlias , snap dragons , sunflowers , nigella , stock , succulents and calla lilies – once the go-to wedding flower of the ‘ 90s – are all popping up more in weddings these days .
“ Garden roses are very popular for weddings because they can be used in place of more expensive flowers like peonies ,” Florey said .
Combining fresh white flowers with lots of greenery will continue to be the local trend in 2022 .
“ The traditional white and green is what we see a lot of here ,” she said . “ A lot of girls love that look because it goes with everything .”
Blue , blush , lighter corals , and ivory are also expected to be popular wedding colors in the coming year .
“ We are seeing a lot of pretty soft blues , sort of like an ice blue , ivories , creams , corals , and a really pretty mauve , not that country kitchen pinkish mauve but more of a blush color ,” she said .
