REMEMBRANCES OF MARK CHANDLER

When asked to write about Mark Chandler , I immediately said yes not considering the gravity of the task . I began to think about what to write and I became filled with emotions of gratitude , respect , sadness and joy .
Mark was my colleague and my mentor in hospitality education but more than that , he was my friend . His dedication to his craft and work spoke for itself ; he always instilled personal pride and work ethic into his students , leading by example . He not only invested in his students but also in others around him .
Seven years ago , Mark took me under his wing showing me how to take my industry experience and redirect that knowledge into an educational curriculum . He showed me how to dig deep to reach students and become a solid educator in my field of study . Mark played a large role in shaping me as a professional . Throughout our time working together , we developed a strong bond , a true friendship .
Even leaving MCC for a new opportunity did not change our friendship . As a friend , Mark was true and loyal , always willing to lend a helping hand .
I miss my friend ; I miss Mark ’ s presence at MCC in the classroom and on campus , as I know so many others do . Our building is just not the same without him . It was a pleasure to know Mark and a privilege to call him a friend .
Mark Chandler was a man of integrity , loyalty and kindness ; who always put others first and took great pride in all he did . The world needs more people like Mark . He was a remarkable man whose legacy continues to live on through all those he knew , worked with and taught .
