The Arms does a solid Christmas spread – £23.25 for 2 courses, £30 for 3. That covers confit of duck leg terrine,
whole breaded whitebait, and sticky date and onion goat’s cheese among the starters, and free-range turkey with
chestnut and cranberry stuffing, slow-cooked venison with red wine and juniper casserole, or sirloin steak with celeriac
remoulade holding up the mains. Finish off with a fig and honey crème brulee if you fancy.

et another Bridport Palmers pub, and the
equal to any. This one is on the riverside,
with a cosy bar and fresh, modern
dining area. The Christmas Day menu (check
availability) proposes four courses for £55pp
– including king prawn and lobster cocktail,
ham hock terrine with fried duck egg, then
Balson turkey with bacon wrapped chipolata,
beef brisket, or salmon and prawn pie. Go for
the Christmas pud to finish, or treat yourself to
Bailey’s profiteroles with salted caramel sauce.
The Christmas Party menu is £20 for 2 courses,
£25 for 3 – ham hock terrine makes another
appearance, joined this time by prawn and
crayfish cocktail, followed by a choice of Balsons
turkey in Palmers ale gravy, beef brisket or cod
loin. The surprise dessert? It’s got to be the
chocolate Eton mess.
