Great British Cheese Awards.
The iconic cheese, saved from
extinction by Mike Davies over
40 years ago, won Best Blue
Cheese and the People’s Choice
Award at the ceremony, held on
the 17th October.
In this celebration of great
artisan cheese, the public get to
nominate their favourites and
vote on a shortlist, followed by a
panel of experts who decide on
the winners.
Dorset Blue Vinney’s success marks a remarkable high point in the cheese’s history.
Made in every farmhouse in Dorset until production stopped during the Second World
War, the cheese had all but died out until resurrected by Mike Davies from a 300-year-
old recipe. He brought it back in 1980 and produced it at Woodbridge farm where it’s
still made today by his family. Nothing goes better on a Dorset Knob.
