Framptons of Bridport
Market House , East St , Bridport DT6 3LF 01308 422995 framptonsofbridport . co . uk
Let ’ s face it , Bridport isn ’ t going to be the easiest town in which to open a butchers , what with it already being home to Britain ’ s oldest butchers , the five-century-old RJ Balson & Son . So it ’ s a testament to the quality of Framptons that the town is big enough for the two of them .
Framptons opened in 1993 , but it looks like it ’ s been there for over a century , occupying the level below the town ’ s Grade I listed town hall . Owner Phil Frampton was a trainee butcher with Dewhurst ’ s before working for several years at the butchers which previously occupied the site . It ’ s still very much a family-run business , and that extends to the family of suppliers . These include Somerset beef from Kesbury ’ s in Glastonbury , Pork from Crichel Estate in Wimborne , Creedy Carver chicken from Crediton in Devon , lamb and Dexter beef from Martin Clunes ’ Buckham Farm , and cheese and salamis from Hawkridge in Crediton .
Beginners can find their feet with some delicious pies and homemade sausages , while the real meat experts will want to try the full hog roast , enough to serve up to 200 people .
