hristmas might be the most wonderful time
of the year but the end of autumn going
into winter is arguably even most delicious.
There’s much of the same fantastic local food
coming into season but without the pressure that
Christmas cooking inevitably brings.
So this issue we can focus on enjoying tidings of
comfort food bringing joy rather than stressing over
the turkey and trimmings. That’s for next month.
Of course, you could always get a professional to
do it for you. As our Festive Feasts feature (p26)
proves, the best Christmas dinner could be one

you don’t have to cook yourself. Instead trust some
of the region’s finest chefs to serve Christmas
menus that take the most important meal of the
year to new heights. Book with plenty of time
before the big day so you can get some inspiration
for your own yuletide masterpiece.
Christmas is coming earlier in other areas of this
issue too with some celebratory drinks – join us for
a Dorset Espresso Martini (p63), infuse some new
flavours in vodka for a homemade present (p65)
and raise a pint to a local brewer who makes
