othing builds an appetite like crisp autumnal air, making the season arguably
better for a celebration of local food and drink than showy old summer. The
Wimborne Minster Food & Drink Festival on Saturday, 24th October from 10am -
4pm will have more than a hundred stalls as this free family event becomes an annual
fixture in foodie diaries.
Arrive hungry and thirsty is organiser Jenny Brown's advice. The owner of Food
Events 4 U, Jenny is a former restaurateur who’s passionate about great food and well-
known in the town for organising Wimborne BID events, including the Christmas
lights switch-on.
"We’ve some very special attractions," said Jenny, "including, for the first time, the
Neff demonstration kitchen in the Square. We’re building on the festival’s success last
year and looking forward to welcoming another enthusiastic crowd!"
Professional chefs demoing this year include David Shepherd of La Fleur de Lys
in Shaftesbury, Pete Murt from Rick Stein in Sandbanks, and Sarah Ali and Lisa
Osman from the All Hallows Cookery School in Wimborne St Giles.

o rth going on an arduous adventure for,
FIREPOT by Dorset-based Outdoorfood
has been named this year’s winner of food start-up
competition The Seed Fund. Hailed as "a game
changing product that can make a huge difference
to eating outdoors”, these backpack-friendly
dehydrated meals use natural ingredients, no
preservatives and only need hot water to prepare.
Just the thing you need when your idea of eating
outdoors is a rain lashed mountainside rather than
huddled under a patio heater.
Owner, John Fisher was inspired to develop
FIREPOT meals when he became frustrated by
a lack of natural foods to eat when hiking. His
company will now receive a year of business support
and mentoring from the Seed Fund’s industry
experts. And, don’t tell anyone, but there’s nothing
to stop you eating them inside, in the warm when
you’re too tired to cook.
