Blackberries are back and as delicious
as ever, if you can wait for them to
ripen. Just get to the hedgerow before
fellow pickers and the massed ranks
of insects do. So much else is in season,
from broccoli to grouse, celery to
redcurrants that you can’t help but
start building seasonal salads in your
mind when walking around the farm
shop or market.
Ripe blackberries come off
the bramble with just a
small tug. Wear long sleeves
to protect your arms.
Scissors are useful for
snipping off big clumps.
